Patient Support Representative

Job Summary

University Orthopedics Center, a leader in orthopedic care throughout Central PA for 30 years is currently seeking full-time Patient Support Representatives for our State College office location. We are excited to meet highly motivated candidates who have excellent people skills and enjoy working in a fast-paced professional medical office.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Patient Support Representative (Registration/Appointments) is responsible for the courteous and prompt registration of patients. Records complete and accurate patient demographics and insurance information; obtains all necessary signatures at the time of check-in. Scans all patient, insurance and medical information presented at the time of registration into an electronic medical record. The Patient Support Representative provides efficient and timely management of scheduling all follow-up appointments and coordinating all patient financial obligations upon completion of the appointment. Protects patient confidentiality during the entire registration and scheduling process by securing patient information and discussing processes in a manner supporting patient privacy.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Candidates must be proficient in all office, computer, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prior healthcare experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, e-mail and computer literacy is necessary.
  • Travel to satellite facilities may be required

Clinical Support Representative

Job Summary

Responsibilities and Duties

In this position, you will be responsible for providing support to UOC clinical teams. At UOC, creating the best patient experience is a priority, so facilitating the integration of administrative and patient care functions to improve clinic performance and patient satisfaction is important while complying with all legal, administrative, and regulatory standards.

Physician Assistant - Altoona

Position Summary: The Physician Assistant (PA-C) will provide medical and surgical assistance to UOC Physicians in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients in inpatient and outpatient surgical and clinical settings. The PA-C will have a direct reporting responsibility to the primary supervising Physician however shall also be accountable and provide support to all other UOC physicians and management as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • Physician Assistant Degree

  • Certification by NCCPA

  • Licensure or eligible licensing as a Physician’s Assistant in the State of Pennsylvania.


Supervisory Responsibilities: NA

Outpatient Clinic Responsibilities:

  • Screen patients to determine the need for medical attention.

  • Review patient records to determine health status.

  • Obtain comprehensive patient history

  • Perform a physical examination

  • Record pertinent patient data

  • Make decisions regarding data gathering and appropriate management and treatment of patients being seen for initial evaluation of a problem or the follow-up evaluation of previously diagnosed and stabilized condition.

  • Prepare patient summaries

  • Initiate requests for commonly performed initial laboratory studies.

  • Identify normal and abnormal findings on history, physical examination and commonly performed laboratory studies.

  • Initiate appropriate evaluation and emergency management for emergency situations.

  • Perform clinical procedures such as venipuncture, care and suturing of minor lacerations, removal of sutures, casting and splinting, drawing of injections, control external hemorrhage, and application of dressings and bandages.

  • Removal of superficial foreign bodies.

  • Provide counseling and instruction regarding common patient problems.

  • Provide pre-and post-operative patient education to patients and their families.

  • Respond to telephone inquiries of patients and provide appropriate medical care, and referral for consultation or counseling.

  • Complete appropriate documentation of all evaluations, care and services rendered in the medical record.

  • Provide follow-up and health maintenance care including the appropriate adjustment of medications in accordance with established protocols or in response to specific instructions from the Physician.


Inpatient Responsibilities:

  • Complete individual daily rounds on all inpatients and documentation of medical plan.

  • Participate in rounding with Physicians and provide emergency call coverage support as assigned

  • Provide routine medical management of inpatient care including ordering of diagnostic tests, labs, x-rays, medications (within scope of the PA license) and nutrition, managing adjunctive care.

  • Initiate appropriate emergency care in the inpatient and outpatient setting until the arrival of the supervising physician

  • Manage discharge of patients with appropriate disposition, follow up planning, adjunctive therapy management and education.

  • Make assessment of emergency conditions and, in conjunction with physician, implement management



Surgery:

  • Function as first or second assistant in the operation room including performing surgical exposure, surgical dissections, layer closure of wounds, harvesting of autologous graft materials, and application of immobilization devises.

  • Assist with use of monitoring devices, including radiographic equipment.


Performance Requirements:

  • Performs other clinical duties and responsibilities as assigned

  • Ability to communicate clearly

  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures

  • Ability to maintain quality control standards

  • Prepare patients for surgery, including education, positioning, skin preparation and administration of local anesthetic and preparation of equipment.
