UOC Receives Areas First Accreditation for Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program - Welcomes Initial Fellow in Summer of 2016

University Orthopedics Center (UOC) is pleased to announce that Almaan M. El-Attrache, M.D. has matched for the initial primary care sports medicine fellowship program offered by the practice. UOC’s affiliation as Head Team Physicians for Altoona Curve Professional Baseball, St Francis University, Mount Aloysius, Penn State University-Altoona, Juniata College, and many local high schools, will provide Dr. El-Attrache educational opportunities through event coverage at the professional, intercollegiate, and interscholastic levels of all sports, as well as office based learning. UOC’s Fellowship Director, Eric P. Kephart, D.O., who partnered with Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center to develop the fellowship program, states, “On behalf of UOC and the support from Family Medicine Residency Program at Conemaugh, I am proud to announce our initial ACGME (American College of Graduate Medical Education) accreditation and the successful match of our first primary care sports medicine fellow, Dr. El-Attrache. As the only fellowship training program of this type in Blair County, we are excited to begin training future sports medicine physicians.” In addition to Dr. Kephart, the educational component will be supervised by Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship-trained physician Shawn Saylor, DO, and Sports Medicine Fellowship-trained Orthopedic surgeons Jonathon Van Kleunen, MD, Andy Tyndall, MD, PhD, and Joshua Port, MD. Dr. El-Attrache received his degree in biology at the Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA, and his B.S. at the University of Pittsburgh in Greensburg, PA. He received his Doctorate of Medicine at University Of Sint Eustatius School Of Medicine, St. Maarten, and is currently at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, PA, where he is a resident in Family Medicine. Dr. El-Attrache will complete his residency in June of this year and begin his sports medicine fellowship training at UOC in July 2016.
