Joshua Port, MD, of University Orthopedics Center, was elected to join the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES). Membership in ASES is a privilege and an honor awarded only to experienced orthopedic surgeons who concentrate on shoulder surgery, elbow surgery, and/or sports medicine. Membership is by invitation only, with two accompanying sponsorships from active members of the organization. They also must meet strict academic and clinical requirements as well as demonstrate active involvement in scientific meetings. In his 26 years of practice in the Altoona and Central Pennsylvania area, Dr. Port has ascended remarkably in his career, achieving this national honor and being recognized as the only Orthopedist in our region with this distinction. Congratulations to Dr. Port on becoming an Associate Member, the highest incoming level for a new member in this society. “ASES is an outstanding organization founded in 1982 by a small group of like-minded surgeons interested in caring for patients with shoulder and elbow problems. Today, ASES has grown incredibly to over 1,000 members and continues to be a global shoulder and elbow leader in education, research, and patient care. It is our honor and privilege to welcome the latest outstanding shoulder and elbow surgeons into the ranks,” said Dr. William Levine, 36th ASES President.
